Digital Inclusivity in Libraries

and Information Centers

As a librarian and digital humanist, I focus on the digital divide and the impact that access to digital resources has on our communities. Having worked in both academic and public libraries, my experiences and professional requirements are as varied as the patrons who use our resources.

Because of this, I work to recognize the difference between digital equity and digital inclusion, and apply that knowledge to my work whenever I can;

I work toward closing the breach between those “born” into technology usage and those who were not by providing support to students and public patrons equally;

I strive to better myself through continuing my education, both academically and personally;

To be cognizant of my privilege, and that of those I work with, in order to better understand what accommodations or resources are needed to succeed;

To recognize that having a different starting point does not disqualify you from succeeding and that it is my job to provide the resources to guide you to your goals;

To educate others about the digital divide and how we can work together to close it;

And to say to anyone that needs it:

Welcome to the library.
